Why are people upset about pronouns in Starfield? ›

All this is in a response to a window that pops up during character creation asking the player to confirm their character's pronouns from three options: he/him, she/her, and they/them. Larian Studios' Dungeons & Dragons-based game Baldur's Gate 3 was released for Playstation 5 on the same day as Starfield.

NexusMods has banned a Starfield mod that permitted players to removed pronoun options from the game. Nexus says that whilst the mod's removal was "not a political statement or an alignment to one side or the other in the culture war", it reserved the right "not to host" the mod on its platform.

Starfield's options for pronouns are He/Him, She/Her, and They/Them. But at first, the game will pick one based on the players' Body Type. Although, it's worth noting that changing pronouns in Starfield won't affect appearance.

Starfield does not require players to manually select pronouns during initial character creation but rather assigns them automatically based on body type and other choices. The player then has the option to change the pronouns right before completing their character.

Other nonbinary pronouns include ze (pronounced “zee”) in place of she/ he, and hir (pronounced “here”) or zir (pronounced “zer”) in place of his/him/her (e.g., Jadzia runs hir own business, but ze is more well-known as an author).

Like many major RPGs, Starfield lets you fall in love with companions as you travel. Romance in Starfield serves many purposes beyond just roleplay, though: you'll get frequent gifts, unlock exciting new quests, and even net a large XP bonus that'll help you level up faster.

While not overly gory, Starfield does contain a lot of violence and blood while shooting at humans and aliens (you can fight against robots, too). Players will have access to several futuristic weapons including guns, bombs, lasers. Some blood splatter during combat or in a cutscene sequence.
